Hands Off The Ninth Of Europe

Muti Receives European Language Award

"Hands Off the Ninth of Europe"

Riccardo Muti Returns to Chicago as Director Emeritus For Life

Maestro Riccardo Muti was recently honored with the "Hands Off the Ninth of Europe" award for his efforts to promote the Italian language. The award is given by the European Language Equality Network (ELEN) to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to the promotion of linguistic diversity and equality. Muti is a strong advocate for the Italian language, and he has used his position as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to promote Italian music and culture.

In his acceptance speech, Muti said that he was "deeply honored" to receive the award, and he pledged to continue his work to promote linguistic equality. He also said that he believes that the Italian language is a "precious treasure" that should be cherished and protected.

Muti's recognition for his efforts to spread the Italian language comes as he returns to Chicago as Director Emeritus for Life. The concert had ended and Riccardo Muti, the music director of the Chicago Symphony, was walking off the stage when he was called out by an enthusiastic then-Chicago Symphony Orchestra music director.
