Boston Red Sox Outfielder Tyler O'Neill Still Not Cleared to Return

Timeline for Return Still Unknown

Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill is still not cleared to return to the team's lineup, according to manager Alex Cora.

O'Neill, who signed a one-year contract with the Red Sox in March, has been sidelined since early April with a hamstring injury.

Cora said that O'Neill is making progress in his rehab, but he is not yet ready to return to game action.

No Set Timetable

There is no set timetable for O'Neill's return, but Cora said that he hopes to have him back in the lineup sometime in May.

In the meantime, the Red Sox will continue to use a combination of Franchy Cordero and Jarren Duran in right field.

O'Neill's History

O'Neill, 28, is a former All-Star who has played for the Seattle Mariners and St. Louis Cardinals.

He has a career batting average of .248 with 111 home runs and 356 RBIs.

The Red Sox are hoping that O'Neill can provide some power and leadership to their lineup.

Additional Information

  • O'Neill is a right-handed batter.
  • He has played in the Major Leagues since 2018.
